Our Beginnings
Sugar Boss Professional was created by Roxan Lee, a passionate industry professional with over a decade of experience in the Art of Body Sugaring.
With years of hands-on experience specializing in the handheld method of sugaring, Roxan understands that hair removal is about much more than simply removing unwanted hair. It’s about creating an experience that leaves clients feeling comfortable, confident, cared for, and beautiful in their skin.
Her passion for sugaring led her to develop Sugar Boss Professional, a premium line of professional sugaring products designed to complement the service she believes in so strongly. Each product was created with the professional sugarist and their clients in mind, with a focus on quality, performance, and healthy, smooth, glowing skin.
Roxan is dedicated to changing the way people experience hair removal — making it more comfortable, relaxing, professional, and even fun. Introduction to Sugaring
Sugaring is an ancient method of hair removal that dates as far back as Cleopatra’s time. In Egyptian times, the Pharaohs required women to be brought to them completely hair-free. In Alexander the Great’s time, women would practice these types of hair-removal techniques to prepare for their wedding night. Today, most of these dated methods have been modernized. Many people have tried just about everything out there: shaving, depilatory-like creams, electrolysis, threading, waxing and laser treatments. Sugaring remains to be the safest method and most natural hair removal process for all skin types.
The Basics of Sugaring
Sugaring is an organic form of hair removal that utilizes a sugar paste. The paste is all-natural made with sugar, water and lemon. It is cooked until it has a taffy-like consistency that looks like honey.
The paste is applied with a gloved hand, moulding the paste against the hair growth so that when the hair is removed in a flicking motion it is being pulled out by the follicle in the same direction as the hair grows. This method reduces hair breakage, ingrown hairs and also removes hair as less than ¼ of an inch long. Due to the sugar being water-soluble it can be applied more than once to the same area. It will not adhere to live skin cells or burn your skin.
Prior to sugaring the client, pre and post-support products are applied to clean the skin of any natural oils as well as help calm, soothe and hydrate the skin. Post-treatment, the client should be informed about the appropriate exfoliation techniques to use between treatments.
With our proper technique and training, sugaring is the best and safest method of hair removal available and reduces hair growth over time which can even lead to permanency.
The Handheld Method
The handheld method of sugaring is not to be confused with other methods that use strips or a thinner sugar paste that is often called sugar waxing or strip sugar. The handheld method of sugaring is a mould and flick technique. The sugar paste is pinched into a ball at the base of the thumb and fingertips with a gloved hand. The ball of paste is then moulded onto the area that is to be sugared by moulding against the direction of hair growth. It is gently moulded several times to ensure that the paste effectively seeps into the follicle to envelop the root of unwanted hair. It is then gently flicked away in the direction of hair growth to remove the hair.
